Property Information

Developed in 1980 by Hines, 1100 Louisiana is a 55-story, 1.3-million-square-foot office building located in the heart of Houston's primary energy and financial corridor. The tower is clad in polished Spanish Rose granite with rose-colored windows. The south and east curtainwall contains a series of large stepped bays at the top of the building. 1100 Louisiana contains 45,500 square feet of retail space and a 2,234-car parking facility adjacent to the building that is accessible via the downtown tunnel system.

The tower rises from a garden-like water plaza that occupies almost a quarter of the block. It was designed by Gensler, in collaboration with James Burnett Landscape Architects, and the fountain by WET Design, who is known for the fountains at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. The fountain creates a “Water Room”, an intimate space within the plaza defined by two water walls, whose steps are gently caressed by cascading water. The origin of the cascading water is a series of programmable, bubbling jets located on the top step of the wall. Individuals who enter the plaza are surrounded by tranquility, isolating them from ongoing vehicular traffic. Strategically placed off center, a floating disk ejects pulsating water from its openings. At which point, the suspended water is possessed by gravity creating a symphony of rhythmic splashes, as it hits the disk’s surface. In the evening, white light saturates the water wall and penetrates the columns of vertical, animated water jets. The fountains are surrounded by seven large oak trees with a domed topiary draped in ivory that resides at the base of each tree. A floating bench borders the topiary to provide a place for visitors to sit and enjoy the water show. Sleek, chrome tables and chairs provide additional seating throughout the plaza area. To add to the experience, the LED lighting at the base of the topiaries will turn colors as the seasons and holidays change.
